Durlabh Kashyap Death

In January 2018, the Indore police received information that Durlabh Kashyap and his associates were hiding in a house in the Banganga area of the city. A team of police officials led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Indore Harinarayanachari Mishra, along with the Special Task Force (STF) and local police, conducted a search operation in the area.

As the police team approached the house, Kashyap and his associates started firing at them. One of Kashyap’s associates got killed in the ensuing gunfight, and two police officials were injured. The police retaliated, and Kashyap was shot and died after a prolonged exchange of fire.

After the encounter, the police recovered a cache of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, pistols, and grenades, from the house where Kashyap and his associates hid. It was widely reported in the media and hailed as a significant victory against organized crime in the state. 

Many people in Indore, who Kashyap’s criminal activities had terrorized, welcomed his death and expressed relief that he would no longer be able to harm innocent people. To guarantee that the rule of law follows in such circumstances, one should consider voiced concerns about the use of extrajudicial murders by the police.
