Cold Press Juicer vs Centrifugal Juicer | Which is Best?

Juicing is not new, but it has become quite the buzz. It’s an excellent way to conveniently introduce the extracts of many fruits and vegetables into your diet. 

Whether you’re a beginner at juicing or have been into it for a couple of years, you must’ve wondered about the deal with cold press juicing and centrifugal juicing.

Cold Press Juicers

Cold press juicers use something called an auger, and it spins at a low RPM to separate the fibres of the fruits and vegetables from the juice while retaining all the essential nutrients. It is currently the best juicing method on the market, albeit costly. 

As its name suggests, it uses no heat during the juicing process, as when juices are subjected to heat, they tend to lose their vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. The fruit or vegetable is churned slowly and pushed against the strainer to extract the juice without any friction heat. 

However, a cold press juicer is much slower than the standard centrifugal juicer, as since it spins at a slower speed, it’s a more labour intensive job. 

Benefits of a Cold Press Juicer.

As it generates no friction heat during the juicing process. It helps juices preserve their nutritional value, preventing oxidation along with it too.

Customisable parts are readily available for cold press juicers and are easily replaceable. Various attachments are available to make smoothies, sorbets, and other things. 

  1. Juicing Greens & Vegetables 

If you want to drink the juice of leafy greens such as kale or spinach, you’re much better off with a cold press juicer, as it extracts the juice out of gardens much more efficiently. While, in centrifugal juicers, most of the juice from vegetables is wasted due to the fast-spinning blade.

As the cold press juicer’s auger moves at a low RPM, it produces significantly less noise compared to other juicers. 

Disadvantages of Cold Press Juicers

Cold press juicers can be heavy on the wallet, as most cold press juicers start from. A cold press juicer starts from 10,000 up to 50-60,000 Rupees.

Cold press juicers are usually much heavier and bulkier than typical juicers. 

  1. Prep time & Time-Consuming 

Due to the smaller chute size, cold press juicers require more prep time than centrifugal juicers and are much slower. 

Centrifugal Juicers 

Centrifugal juicers are the most commonly available juicers in the market. They use a high-speed spinning blade to chop up and press the pulp against the mesh inside the juicer. It uses centrifugal force to separate the juice from the pulp. 

Centrifugal juicers are dramatically faster than cold press juicers, ranging from 1500-15000 RPM. 

Benefits of Centrifugal Juicers 

  1. Extremely Quick

Due to the fast-spinning blades, the juicing time of a centrifugal juicer is much faster; compared to a cold press juicer, the difference is massive.

  1. Wallet-Friendly

One of the reasons centrifugal juicers are so readily available is their affordability. It is much cheaper than cold press juicers. 

  1. Easy to Use

Centrifugal juicers usually don’t have a lot of parts, and most of them are dishwasher safe. They are also pretty easy to use and user friendly. 

Disadvantages of Centrifugal Juicers 

  1. Loud & Noisy

As the blades spring extremely fast, centrifugal juicers are much louder than cold press juicers, which are relatively silent. 

  1. Not Suitable for Leafy Vegetables 

Centrifugal juicers are not the best at extracting juices from leafy green vegetables, such as kale, spinach, lettuce, wheatgrass, etc. The high-speed blade results in a frothy juice and does not preserve the nutrients of the vegetables. 

Which One Should You Buy?

Whether you go with the centrifugal juicer or the cold press juicer, the decision will be based on many factors. Cold press juicers produce the highest quality juice with all its nutrients safely produced, but centrifugal juicers are much faster, making them more time-efficient. 

A centrifugal juicer is best if you have a busy and active schedule and don’t want to spend much time juicing and cleaning out the cold press machine. 

However, if you value the nutrients and quality and have enough time on your hands, a cold press juicer would be our recommendation.
