Islamabad, Jan 1 Pakistan and India exchanged lists of nuclear installations and facilities despite tension over the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks that has broken the dialogue process between the two countries.

"The governments of Pakistan and India today (Friday) exchanged lists of their respective nuclear installations and facilities in accordance with Article-II of the Agreement on Prohibition of Attack against Nuclear Installations and Facilities between Pakistan and India of 31 December 1988," Pakistan's foreign ministry said in a statement.

Both countries exchange the list of nuclear sites on the first day of every new year under an agreement signed in 1988, which came into force in January 1991, Xinhua reported.

The ministry handed over the list of Pakistan's nuclear installations and facilities to an officer of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad at the Foreign Office at 11 a.m., the statement said.

The Indian side handed over their list to an officer of the Pakistan High Commission at the ministry of external affairs in New Delhi at 11.30 a.m., it said.

Pakistan and India conducted tit-for-tat nuclear tests in 1998, raising concerns over a nuclear race in the region.
